10/7/2014 – Dau Dang Waterfall, Ba Be National Park
Left Cao Bang headed for BaBe National Park. Lunch in a local restaurant before boarding boat. Went to a huge open cave, which the river ran through. Continued downstream to the waterfall. Had a short walk to get there, which turned out was about the only time we actually saw the forest close up today. Saw plenty of insects and butterflies and enjoyed the different vegetation on the walk. Would have loved to spend more time at the waterfall, there is something about waterfalls that really refresh me. Dad was done though, so when he goes we all go. Sat around and waited for our tour leader, could have been back at the waterfall, but anyway. Continued the boat ride, the hills are covered in rain forest, leading down to the lake, is quite nice, would be good to explore it more. Watched the local fisherman who were fishing using traditional methods. Don’t think you ever see our fishermen actually get into the water to catch their fish! Stopped at Widow Island, was just rocks, and we clambered around the rocks to look. We were meant to go swimming at Widow Island, which really wasn’t practical, asked if there was somewhere to sit on the shore if you didn’t swim, next thing we’ve left the island and 5 mins later the boat stops in the middle of the lake. Swim, sit he says. Sigh. Things easily get lost in translation sometimes. Least it was quiet, took some good photos then (another of which hangs in my house), as the sun was just starting to go down. Sometimes you just have to redeem the time and enjoy what comes! Lovely area and scenery, well worth a visit and gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the cities.
